What You Need to Know About Carpal Tunnel Braces |
Wrist braces/splints are often used early in the diagnosis. When these are used, healthcare providers have not yet seen a need to address carpal tunnel with surgery. Many people with mild or moderate symptoms get them on an intermittent basis. This type of situation makes wearing a brace helpful. When combined with rest, as appropriate, many patients will find a good amount of relief. Your doctor might suspect carpal tunnel if you have any of these symptoms. Then the physician will do an exam with other diagnostics: Your doctor will inquire about your medical history, which will help rule out other conditions that may cause similar symptoms. A physical exam can also help rule out other conditions contributing to nerve pressure. In addition to the hand and wrist, your doctor will also examine your shoulder and neck areas. Wrist braces, when used with medications for pain relief, can provide help during the early stages of the condition. A brace will help act as a stabilizer for your hand and wrist, primarily if you work in a field that requires repetitive movements, such as typing or working with tools.
