In addition to exam tables, medical exam table paper is widely used to protect numerous types of surfaces like massage tables, dentist instrument tables, physician’s room tables, and in this specific case, chiropractic chairs and adjustment tables. Essentially, medical exam paper can be used to cover any surface that will come into direct contact with a patient. Covering these surfaces protects the patient from any potentially harmful microorganisms or viruses that can be transferred from person to person through shared contact.
Exam table paper typically comes on a convenient roll that can be stored on a paper holder and easily accessed between patients. Headrest and face cradle paper covers are available on a roll or in a box for compact storage.
Before a client arrives, exam paper is simply rolled out to the necessary length required to cover the chiropractic table or treatment room equipment and cut to length. Once the chiropractic treatment is completed, disposable medical exam table paper is thrown away and replaced.

Chiropractic exam table paper is constructed to be strong and absorbent. This type of paper is manufactured with the use of pulp fibers or old, recycled pulp. Due to its sturdy construction, medical exam paper is usually hard to tear. They may only be torn at an angle so that they can then be separated from the roll, as chiropractors will typically leave the paper attached until the examination is finished and the patient has left.
Some paper rolls may even be available with perforations so that they can be easily torn away after use. Other exam paper types may even be customized with entertaining print so that the chiropractic office has a less intimidating atmosphere for children and babies. All exam table paper rolls come in several different sizes and styles for whatever the office most needs.
Types of Exam Paper
There are two different types of medical exam table papers available for purchase at Scriphessco.com: smooth and crepe table paper.
Smooth table paper is glazed with a fine finish in order to help prevent moisture from penetrating the paper. It is more resistant to body moisture and gives off a more professional appearance for patients coming into the office.
Crepe paper, by contrast, has a paper-towel-like texture. It is typically the softer of the two and usually more comfortable for the patient to lay on. This type of paper also tends to be less noisy when the patient moves.
The specifications for both smooth and crepe paper are measured equally. The paper’s thickness is denoted in ‘ply’ figures (i.e., two-ply or four-ply) and is most commonly referred to as either ‘standard’ or ‘deluxe.’ The weight of the medical exam paper is generally represented in pounds and is directly related to the paper’s thickness and strength.
Selecting the Right Medical Exam Paper for My Practice
While the type of paper has little effect on pricing, medical exam paper with a lesser weight is typically more economical. As a rule, the heavier the weight of the paper, the higher the price will be as it will offer superior strength, more protection from viruses and bacteria, and increased absorbency.
Because smooth paper and crepe table paper both do an excellent job of protecting patients from cross-contamination, your personal preference between the two styles should be the biggest deciding factor for which you should buy.
