Dr. Roby Taylor Myers, Owner & Lead Chiropractor at East Coast Elite Chiropractic-Sports Performance & Rehab

I appreciate all the support over the last 2 years while setting up my new practice. I have had successful results with over 90-95% of my patients with disc injuries/ neck/ back pain in utilizing the DTS table as a stand alone treatment. I will be honest- it was a tough decision initially because of the financial investment/ commitment while I was starting practice. I am glad that I decided to integrate the DTS into my practice from the start because of the referrals and the wonderful response from my patients. Thanks again for all your help over the last 2 years and continued support.

Analgesic Sprays, Creams, Gels & Patches for Pain Relief

Many massage businesses and chiropractic clinics will use analgesic sprays as a way to bring relief to their clients. If you're new to massage therapy or chiropractic adjustments, or you're simply looking for pain relief, then you may be new to the idea of analgesics and what they can do for you. We will explain to you what they are and the different types available.

What Are Analgesics?

Analgesics are a type of topical painkiller that you can put on your skin to help you with different aches that you face. This applies to muscle pain and other types of relief: you simply apply the analgesic to the targeted area and it will instantly absorb into the skin and alleviate any pain that you’re feeling.

Analgesic Sprays

One of the most convenient topicals available are analgesic sprays. These are great for people with arthritis pain because it absorbs even more quickly than gels and creams, which have a thicker consistency and have to be massaged into the skin. This may cause unnecessary discomfort for the user.

Methods of Administration

These analgesics are applied directly to the skin of the area where you feel pain. You can use different types of analgesics based on your personal needs. This includes gels, creams, lotions, patches, and sprays. You can look into the different types available and find one that suits your needs.

Analgesics are great options if you want fast-acting relief to trigger points on your body. Massage and chiropractic adjustment can be painful for individuals with arthritis or other autoimmune conditions, but topical analgesics can make the process that much more comfortable for your clients.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Which ingredients offer the best pain relief?

The most effective pain relief ingredients are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These anti-inflammatory drugs successfully reduce pain caused by arthritis, back and neck injuries, muscle sprains, or menstrual cramps. Also known as Ibuprofen and naproxen sodium, NSAIDs are the active ingredients in Advil, Motrin IB, and Aleve. These potent pain killers work by preventing certain enzymes called cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) from being released into the body due to an injury or tissue damage. However, prolonged NSAIDs use can cause side effects like stomachaches, nausea, or ulcers. In addition, large doses can result in high blood pressure, fluid retention, or kidney problems.

One of the most common pain relief ingredients is acetaminophen. Famous for being the active ingredient in Tylenol, acetaminophen provides safe and potent relief for mild to moderate pain from headaches, backaches, arthritis, and sprains. However, acetaminophen falls short of NSAIDs in treating osteoarthritis-related knee and hip pain. Scientists can’t explain how acetaminophen works. But some of them believe it may restrict the third type of cyclooxygenase, COX-3. Since it doesn’t fight inflammation, acetaminophen doesn’t affect COX-1 and COX-2.

Non-oral, or topical analgesics, usually contain some combination of menthol, camphor, salicylate, lidocaine, histamine dihydrochloride, hydrocortisone, and/or capsaicin. Although studies are ongoing, CBD, or Cannabidiol oil, has also become a popular ingredient in many analgesic creams, lotions, and ointments.

What is the best arthritis pain relief cream?

The American College of Rheumatology and the Arthritis Foundation (ACR/AF) endorse nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to provide the best treatment for arthritis pain, especially osteoarthritis pain. So, the best arthritis pain relief cream would have the best combination of NSAIDs or anti-inflammatory properties and other topical ingredients. Products with capsaicin, like Sombra Pain-Relieving Warming Gel and RockSauce, can fit that bill.

What is the best topical analgesic for muscle pain?

Muscle pain is usually related to athletic activity or physical exertion. So, the best topical analgesics should focus on recovery, pain relief, fewer pharmaceuticals, and more natural ingredients. This distinction is why many of the best topical analgesics contain ingredients like MSM, aloe leaf extract, burdock root, and Arnica Montana flower extract. At present, most health professionals and consumers regard Biofreeze topical analgesic as the best product for muscle pain because it encompasses the best remedy for pain relief and recovery. In addition, its natural formula and proprietary herbal blend penetrate your skin to provide long-lasting comfort to your muscles and surrounding joints.

How does pain relief spray work?

A pain relief spray works better than a pain-relieving roll-on or CBD pain relief ointment at covering hard-to-reach areas of your body, like your back. Using the high-powered force from the sprayer, you can apply the pain-relieving formula quicker and easier than other application methods. In addition, your skin readily absorbs the liquified topical analgesic to receive expedient relief.

What is the best pain relief gel?

Since the containers are easy to store and the application is simple, pain relief gels are popular with athletes and athletic trainers. Also, the ingredients are fast-acting and deep penetrating relief for small and large muscle areas. The best brand of pain relief gel is Biofreeze because its cooling menthol formula delivers on all these needs. It is the number one clinically recommended pain-relieving gel.

Can you use pain relief when pregnant?

Please consult your physician about the risks of taking oral pain relievers or using topical analgesics while pregnant. Although healthy women have successfully used acetaminophen during pregnancy, studies have shown that NSAIDs may increase your risks of miscarriage and birth defects.
