What You Need to Know About Hand Splints

Resting Hand Splints

Functional, resting hand splints are often used to help maintain the position of the hand while recovering from various forms of paralysis. They are made from several different types of materials, from removable thermoplastics to foam that can be molded. Most of the conditions resting hand splints are used to treat include stroke victims and people who have sustained a traumatic brain injury.

Aluminum Core Splints for the Thumb

These types of hand splints allow a more lightweight alternative to hand splints because they are made to fit your thumb perfectly and they offer immobilization of your thumb whenever you need it. Of course, you will have to first determine the amount of mobilization that you need in particular in order to get the most pain relief from aluminum core splints.

Metal Stay Splints

Metal stay splints are a great tool for moderate injuries or needs for mobilization. They provide individuals with the means to protect their joints around the clock without needing to necessarily take them off as often. Metal stay splints made with elastic are generally the best to wear throughout the day.

Osteoarthritis Wrist Pain

Osteoarthritis is the gradual breakdown of the padding in joints, which leads to feelings of tenderness and pain in the affected joints. Wearing wrist and hand braces to deal with osteoarthritis is a great treatment option for several different kinds of wrist pain.

The hand braces will allow you to perform tasks more easily and efficiently than you would otherwise be able to. If you start to feel other signs of bodily distress such as numbness or tingling, it would be wise to consult with a doctor to find out if there are any other neurological issues at hand.

Once the inflammation from the osteoarthritis subsides, dynamic hand splints are useful for palsy patients with weaker fingers to help gain a larger range of motion for the patient.

Some wrist splints can be used to treat carpal tunnel syndrome over a short period of time. However, if they're used over an extended period of time, wrist splints may cause the muscles in your arms to weaken. After the wrist splint has been used as a treatment method for pain relief, you will need to increase your exercise regimen to prevent the muscles in your wrists and arms from atrophying. If long-term use is necessary, the mold may need certain adaptations with the use of a heat gun.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS ARE SAYING

I don't know what we would have done if we had not had ScripHessco as our supplier. From the days before opening until now, they have been here for us. The promptness of your services have been fantastic. The array of products is phenomenal and the great pricing you just can't beat. I want to say a great big "thank you" to Brenda as well she has been the best rep that anyone could ever ask to have call on an office. She is so knowledgeable and has the expertise to help you through from opening to anytime you may need her.

Dr. Roby Taylor Myers, Owner & Lead Chiropractor at East Coast Elite Chiropractic-Sports Performance & Rehab

I appreciate all the support over the last 2 years while setting up my new practice. I have had successful results with over 90-95% of my patients with disc injuries/ neck/ back pain in utilizing the DTS table as a stand alone treatment. I will be honest- it was a tough decision initially because of the financial investment/ commitment while I was starting practice. I am glad that I decided to integrate the DTS into my practice from the start because of the referrals and the wonderful response from my patients. Thanks again for all your help over the last 2 years and continued support.
